Price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, not our own quotes. Local labor, material prices and the conditions on your lot move a job up or down inside a range. Last checked October 2026.

How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?
Count the bad posts, because that is what you are paying for. A lean comes from the posts, not the boards. One or two posts is a standard repair. When most of the posts in a run are soft or loose, rebuilding that run costs less than replacing posts a few at a time over several visits.
Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?
Usually it can. Around Montgomery a fence leans for three reasons: posts rotted or eaten by termites at the ground line, clay soil that swelled and shrank until the footing came loose, and wind pushing on a solid privacy fence. If the rails and pickets are still sound, we set new posts and hang the same fence back on them.
How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?
One or two posts falls in the $300 to $900 range by national figures. The work is breaking out the old post and its concrete, digging the hole deeper, setting a ground-contact treated post, and fastening the rails back on. A post tangled in roots or sitting in waterlogged clay takes longer.
My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?
Repair it in most cases. A sagging gate nearly always points to the hinge post leaning, hinges worn loose, or a gate frame pulled out of square. We reset or replace the hinge post, add a diagonal brace or a turnbuckle, and line the latch back up. If the frame itself is rotten, a new gate is the better fix.
How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?
A broken gate latch is a minor repair, $100 to $300 by national 2026 figures. Most fence companies have a minimum charge for a visit. It makes sense to save up loose pickets and other small jobs and have them done on the same trip.
My fence posts shifted after a wet winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?
Yes, but not in the same shallow hole. Montgomery does not get the deep frost that lifts posts up north. Here the cause is clay. Black Belt soil swells when it is soaked and shrinks when it dries, and a shallow footing rides along with it. We pull the post, dig below the layer that moves, and pour a footing that is no wider at the top than at the bottom, so the clay has nothing to grab.
My fence line goes wavy every summer and winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?
Some of each. Prairie clay moves no matter who built the fence, and long dry spells open cracks along a fence line. But posts set deep enough, in properly shaped footings, move far less than shallow ones in the same yard. If the line goes wavy every year, the posts are too shallow for that soil. Sprinklers soaking one side of the fence make it worse.
A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?
Maybe not. It depends on how the fence was made. On some systems a single rail or a few pickets can be swapped. Many are sold as assembled panels, and then the whole section between two posts is replaced. Send us a photo of the damage and of a post where the rails connect, and we can usually tell you which kind you have.
